Cycle Schenectady will be hosting a series of casual, family-friendly rides this summer in various neighborhoods. The aim is to give residents of each neighborhood a chance to ride with their immediate neighbors and see things from a different perspective — i.e., the seat of a bike on low-stress streets. Additionally, we want people from other neighborhoods to join the ride, touring and learning about neighborhoods different from their own. To facilitate that learning, the group will stop for 15 minutes or so and hear a talk about the neighborhood they’re riding through from someone knowledgeable about it.

Below is a link to the full schedule of “We Are All Neighbors” rides. Come join us.

Here are a couple of links to newspaper pieces about our joint effort with Schenectady United Neighborhoods to get cars in the city to slow down and make the roads safer for cyclists and pedestrians. One was an article in the Albany Times Union. The other was an oped column in The Daily Gazette by Tom Carey, president of Schenectady United Neighborhoods.

The Zoom presentation Cycle Schenectady hosted Wednesday night on the city’s bicycle master plan was a success, with more than 50 people attending. The participants — Cycle Schenectady President Art Clayman, Capital District Transportation Committee Transportation Planner Rima Shamieh, City Engineer Chris Wallin and Planning and Development Director Kristin Diotte — covered a lot of ground and had a good discussion, with a lively question-and-answer period at the end. The session was recorded, and here is a link: https://youtu.be/qA52kqf-320

Below you will find a letter about the event that Clayman wrote to those who registered, as well as a link to a Daily Gazette news story about it.

Hi,

I’d like to thank you all for your interest in Cycle Schenectady and the webinar we hosted on the city’s bicycle master plan Wednesday night. We were pleased with the turnout (more than 50 people attended), as well as the quality of the presentation and discussion that followed during the question-and-answer period.
It was also very encouraging to learn that the city has some bicycle-friendly projects about to start and more planned.
If you registered for the webinar and were unable to attend, or did attend and want to take another, perhaps closer look, here is a link to the recording. https://youtu.be/qA52kqf-320
Meanwhile, we are happy to report that our new website is up and running. To learn more about Cycle Schenectady and upcoming events, visit us at www.cycleschenectady.com, or our Facebook page.
Best,
Art Clayman, Cycle Schenectady President

Part of Cycle Schenectady’s mission is to make Schenectady more bike-friendly. We are pursuing that aim in our regular advocacy work, and as a partner with Schenectady United Neighborhoods in a new Safe Streets Schenectady Coalition.
Here’s a link to a front-page March 29 Gazette story that talks about these efforts, as well as a March 31 webinar on the city’s bike master plan that Cycle Schenectady will be hosting. Read all about it.
